reception_hotelThe Greek ministries of Tourism and Education will work together to upgrade the country’s Schools of Higher Tourism Education on Crete and Rhodes, an announcement said on 30 July. Both tourism schools operate under the Tourism Ministry.

According to the announcment, the aim of the cooperation is to upgrade the curricula of both tourism schools. The ministries are also examining the possibility for graduates of these tourism schools to continue their studies in higher education Greek Universities (AEI or TEI).

The announcement followed a meeting held between Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and Education Minister Andreas Loverdos during which joint actions on issues of tourism education in Greece were discussed.

During the meeting, the current structure of Greece’s tourism education in upper secondary and post-secondary level and how to connect these levels were examined. Also discussed were ways to address the needs and specific requests in higher education.

“Education and training for tourism is of utmost importance to us and this is why the cooperation with the Education Ministry is very critical and substantial,” the tourism minister said in an announcement.
