Santorini was ranked the best honeymoon destination in the world by the editors of US News.

After reviewing expert opinions and thousands of traveler sentiments, US News editors compiled a list to help couples determine the best place for their getaway after tying the knot.

According to U.S. News, though many beach locales nabbed the top spots, the rankings of the best honeymoon destinations offer a versatile range of action-packed, culture-focused and relaxing getaways around the globe.

On Santorini, US News said the Greek island, known for its brilliant sunsets, rich Greek food and romantic hotels, is almost tailor-made for those who’ve just said I do. “Honeymooners can lounge on red- and black-sand beaches or visit the island’s wineries,” it is noted.

Greece’s Crete is also included among the best honeymoon spots in the world.

Placing Crete in the fifth place, US News informed that the large Greek isle is broken into four distinct regions that offer varied experiences, from jungle adventures to beach bum lazing. “The sands are sublime, as are the hotels, spas and cuisine,” US News said.

The 20 best honeymoon destinations, according to US News, are: Santorini, Maui, Venice, Kauai, Crete, Bora Bora, Maldives, Florence, Martinique, Tahiti, Turks and Caicos, British Virgin Islands, Bali, Fiji, St. Martin-St. Maarten, Paris, Seychelles, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Madrid and Anguilla.
