Labirint, one the largest Russian tour operators working with the Greek market, was officially declared bankrupt in Moscow on Saturday 2 August, leaving thousands of tourists from Russia stranded in Greece and many other countries. A meeting took place today, 4 August, at the Tourism Ministry, during which new developments were discussed as well as the next steps that need to be taken. Following the meeting, Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said that the Greek tourism market, which is supporting the accommodation and travel of the stranded Russian tourists, plays a key role in the situation. “Russia was and is a very important tourist market for Greece, one that we have excellent bilateral relations with,” she said in an announcement. She added that in this case, Greek tourism was demonstrating a high level of professionalism. Today’s meeting was attended by Mrs. Kefalogianni; the secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responsible for International Economic Relations, Panagiotis Michalos; the secretary general of the GNTO, Panos Livadas; and the secretary general of the Tourism Ministry, Anastasios Liaskos.
