ferry_WP_000376As the Greek public holiday of 15 August is near, more and more Athenians are leaving the city and heading to the islands. August is the month that most Greeks take their summer vacation.

According to reports, during the 9-10 August weekend some 90,000 people are expected to travel to the Cyclades, Crete, Dodecanese and East Aegean islands and another 25,000 to the Argosaronic islands.

Ferry routes for island destinations have increased for the weekend. A total of 79 ferries are due to leave Piraeus, 36 from Rafina and 18 from Lavrio, Athens’s three main ports. Also, another 47 ferries and 45 flying dolphins will depart just for the islands of the Argosaronic.
