The UK and the Greek island of Crete will be connected with two flights per week (every Thursday and Sunday) until 30 November. In an announcement, Ryanair’s sales and marketing manager for Greece, John Alborante, said the airline would consider extending the route for the entire winter season and extending the season at other airports if the Greek government reduced or even eliminated the high passenger tax (12 euros per passenger). “After the opening of our first Greek base in Chania last year, we launched this year two other bases in Athens and Thessaloniki, with a total of five based aircrafts and 4 million passengers transported this year in Greece, showing our commitment to supporting the growth of tourism and of the local economy. There is potential to extend the season, which itself gives a tourism boost to the region,” Mr. Alborante said.
