Region of Peloponnese, Greece, To Host ABTA Travel Convention In 2015

Messinia, the Region of Peloponnese, will host the 2015 Travel Convention of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA). The convention will take place at Costa Navarino, a luxury coastal resort complex, from 12-14 October.

The announcement was made on 23 September in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana at the end of the 2014 Convention.

“I am delighted that the Region of Peloponnese has agreed to host the 2015 Travel Convention,” ABTA Chairman Noel Josephides said.

The ABTA Travel Convention is considered a top tourism event and is expected to attract over 600 British travel agents/ABTA members and representatives of Internet companies Google, Yahoo, Tripadvisor and travel writers of leading British publications.

“Messinia is a beautiful and historic part of Greece and Costa Navarino’s facilities are second to none,” he added.

It is estimated that host destinations of the ABTA convention see a some 25 percent increase in arrivals from the United Kingdom within a few months of the convention’s organization.

“I am extremely satisfied and happy about ABTA’s decision to host next year’s event in the Peloponnese in the beautiful area of Messinia,” Petros Tatoulis, Governor of the Region of Peloponnese said.

Mr. Tatoulis said that the Peloponnese is a rapidly developing tourist destination, with unique beauty, rich cultural heritage, long history, exceptional gastronomy and most importantly with excellent tourist facilities.

According to the Peloponnese governor, the UK is the most reliable market for the Region of Peloponnese and for this reason special attention will be given to promote the event.

This will be first time that Greece has hosted the Convention since Kos in 2000.
