Land Transportation Athens Metro: Planned Line 4 To Extend From Evangelismos Station To Goudi District by GTP editing team 25 September 2014 written by GTP editing team 25 September 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 The first phase of the construction of the fourth metro line in Athens will involve 14 stations instead of nine as originally planned, Greek Infrastructure Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis said on 25 September while announcing the auction for the construction of the project. The development emerged following recent discussions between the Greek Infrastructure Ministry and “Athens Metro” with the European Investment Bank (EIB). According to the Infrastructure Minister, apart from the Alsos Veikou-Evangelismos connection, the new Line 4 will be extended from Evangelismos to Goudi, which will include stations in the city districts of Pagrati, Kessariani, Ano Ilisia and Zografou. It is estimated that some 220,000 commuters will use the new metro line daily. The project will include the creation of a 11.5 kilometer line and involve the following connection: Alsos Veikou-Galatsi-Kypseli-Dikastiria-Alexandras-Exarxia-Panepistimio-Kolonaki-Evangelismos-Kessariani-Near East-Ilisia-Zografou-Goudi. With the project’s new design, the transportation map of the Greek capital changes significantly as the new metro line will serve the densely populated areas of Kolonaki, Kypseli, Galaţsi and Pagrati. Also, the new Line 4 is expected to be welcomed by the tens of thousands of students who in the future will attend classes at the University of Athens, Zografou Campus. The budget for Line 4 now increases to 1.2 billion euros, half of which will be covered by EIB and the rest by the the new National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) program and national resources. The project will begin in 2015 and is expected to be completed in seven years, in 2022. To see line 4 on the Athens Metro map, press here.
