Event News 2nd Annual Mountain Bike Race On Naxos, Greece, Announced by GTP editing team 16 October 2014 written by GTP editing team 16 October 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 11 Technically challenging 22km route takes cyclists through classic & byzantine monuments and other island sites For a second year in a row, the island of Naxos will be hosting the annual Naxos Mountain Bike Race. The race will take place on Sunday 26 October. The 22km (13.9 miles) technically challenging race, open to men and women (with a shorter course of 13.5 km for young adults), begins and ends at the traditional village of Sagri, a listed protected settlement, 11km from Naxos town. The route will take cyclists through winding natural paths and roads at the foothills of Profitis Ilias and along the outskirts of the villages of Damarionas and Damalas. An area rich in mountainous terrain and green valleys, participants will pass sightseeing highlights such as the magnificent ancient 6th- century Temple of Demeter and the 17th-century Timios Stavros Monastery. The race will start at 12 noon. On site registration starts at 10am and ends promptly at 11:30am. Preregister online here by Friday 24 October. The 2nd Annual Naxos Mountain Bike Race is organized by Island Events, under the auspices of the cultural and athletic organization of the Municipality Naxos and Small Cyclades. Categories Long course: 22 km Male: 18-35 yrs, 36-45 yrs, 46 yrs and up. Female Open Category: 18 yrs and up.
