Condé Nast Traveler readers have ranked Santorini and Skiathos in Greece among the top 30 islands in the world in the luxury travel magazine’s globally respected survey.

The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry and are commonly known as “the best of the best of travel.”

Published annually, the Readers’ Choice Awards aim to recognize the world’s best hotels, cities, islands, cruises, and resorts, as chosen by the travelers themselves.

Santorini, on the southernmost end of the Cyclades island group in Greece, made the top 10, as it is found in the seventh place on the list.

“Santorini is a volcanically formed island with dramatic cliffs, ancient ruins, and picturesque towns that’s said to be the inspiration for Plato’s Atlantis.”

As a “pro tip” it is mentioned to “watch the sun set from Oia, a small village on the southwestern coast made up of whitewashed structures and cave houses built into the cliff side.”

Skiathos of the Sporades island group, in the northern Aegean, was placed in the 21st place by Condé Nast Traveler readers.

“Bustling Skiathos, closest to the mainland, has some of the most idyllic beaches in Greece—more than 60 of them. It also has an active nightlife scene, among whitewashed towns with tan roofs.”

As one would expect, it is mentioned that Skiathos’s “sandy, picture-perfect beaches” were used as filming locations for the “Mamma Mia!” film. It is also mentioned that Koukounaries, a mile-long stretch of calm water backed by a lush pine forest, is the “most popular” of the island’s shorelines.

The complete list of Condé Nast Traveler’s 27th annual Readers’ Choice Awards appear in the magazine’s November issue.
