Terminal 2, The Queen’s Terminal is the new home of Star Alliance at London Heathrow and will offer SAA’s passengers a travel experience with easy transfers, whether flying to or from London or making a connection. “From the moment you arrive at Terminal 2, the passenger journey has been designed to make life as easy as possible,” an announcement by SAA said. SAA customers can also save time by checking-in in advance using their mobile or flysaa.com, providing them with more time to relax and enjoy the choice of 33 retail shops and 17 restaurants. SAA Premium Class passengers will now be whisked through Fast Track to enjoy one of the Star Alliance member lounges. The new Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge has large windows overlooking the airfield, a bistro, a spa-like shower and tv-equipped relaxation pods, providing a relaxing start to any journey. Terminal 2, designed by lead architect Luis Vidal, was jointly developed by Heathrow, Star Alliance and its member carriers, with the aim of establishing a true seamless hub at one of the world’s premier international airports. The main terminal is connected to Terminal Two B a satellite terminal where SAA departs from, by an underground moving walkway. The new Star Alliance hub at Heathrow will also support South African Airways vision to act as a catalyst for African growth, with member airlines serving Heathrow Terminal Two operating over 121 flights per day to 45 destinations in 25 countries. SAA currently operates double daily direct flights from Heathrow Terminal 1 to Johannesburg, connecting to over 30 destinations within Southern Africa. The airline has built a reputation for punctuality, winning the Flight Stats Award for the Most on Time Airline in the World twice during 2013.
