Referring to the WTM 2014 she said that the messages for Greek tourism in 2015 are very positive. “This means that we will continue to grow next year, which will lead to more visitors but also more revenue for the Greek state,” she said. The tourism minister noted that Greece has achieved its objectives in tourism because it followed a specific strategic plan in order to promote the country as a destination and improve tourism infrastructure and services and attract investment in the sector. “Right now we have a very competitive framework for attracting tourism investment and we see that there is alot of interest from foreign funds and also from Greek investors,” Mrs. Kefalogianni said. Replying to a question on the state of the Greek economy, she noted that this year, for the first time, the economic indicators are further improving with a positive sign. Another question involved the taxation on tourism services and she was asked if more tax reductions in the sector are expected, following the VAT cut on food services from 23 percent to 13 percent. “The aim is for taxes to be reduced for the whole tourism package and to become even more competitive,” she said and ruled out any increases on taxes in the sector.
