Destinations news Greece’s Geo Routes Launches Cultural Trek Of Nafplion by GTP editing team 4 November 2014 written by GTP editing team 4 November 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 19 The history and culture of Nafplion are the focus of a new Geo Routes tour, the institute announced recently. Titled “Nafplion Globally Yours”, the trek, drawn up by field experts in collaboration with the Municipality of Nafplion, aims to introduce visitors to the historic northeast Peloponnese town’s rich cultural heritage from the Middle Ages to the 1829, when it became the first capital of the Greek State. During the inaugural tour, Nafplion Mayor, Mr. Dimitris Kostouros, highlighted the local authority’s vision for the period 2014-2019 and referred to Nafplion’s potential for further development, investment opportunities as well as to the challenges of managing a monumental city. “In this deeply multicultural and undeniably charming historic city, in cooperation with the mayor, Mr. Kostouros, for our part we will convey proposals so that in due time Nafplion will become an ‘arena’ for international cultural activities and events, attracting the spotlight from Greece and abroad,” Geo Routes Cultural Heritage Journeys Institute president, Mr. John Balakakis said of the new destination. “Nafplion Globally Yours” is part of Geo Routes “Our Greece Globally Yours” campaign, presented last year to diplomats and foreign missions. Geo Routes Cultural Heritage Journeys Institute is a non-profit, non-governmental organization offering experiential cultural and environmental journeys under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO.
