Delegates from Samburu County, northern Kenya, travelled to Greece recently to gain insight and knowhow on the best tourist promotion strategies. A 10-member delegation visited Greece, 5-12 October, and had the opportunity to experience first hand Athens’ tourist model via presentations, visits and tours. The group attended a Development and Tourism Promotion Company (EATA) presentation of the model applied by the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) promoting the Greek capital as a tourist and convention destination. Kenya delegates with the regional vice governor of Laconia, Adamantia Tzanetea. The Kenyan delegation also visited the Peloponnese, southern Greece, and held discussions with the regional vice governor of Laconia, Adamantia Tzanetea, on the prospects of cooperation between the two regions. Steve Lelegwe, president of Samburu County, invited Mrs. Tzanetea and the Laconia prefecture to work together with Samburu in the areas of tourism, promotion of agricultural goods and entrepreneurship. While in Athens, the Kenyan delegates visited the Greek Centre for Marine Research in Anavyssos, the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park and the Marathon Run Museum, among others.
