Hellenic SeaplanesA strategic alliance was concluded between the University of Piraeus and Hellenic Seaplanes last week, with the aim of providing the knowhow to the future executives of the waterway sector.

Hellenic Seaplanes’ priority is to man the country’s waterways with highly trained professionals and ensure the direct entry into the labor market of University of Piraeus graduates.

Titled “Port Planning and Organization”, a new course in the Department of Maritime Studies aims at educating future employees and executives for the operation and management of the country’s waterways, contributing in this way to the development of the sector and opening new job positions.

“We perceive this effort to take heed of the changing times and needs of the market,” said University of Piraeus professor Konstantinos Hlomoudis.

“Working together with universities and businesses, we can make it possible to meet the challenges of the present and to plan the future in the fields that need growth.”

In the meantime, Hellenic Seaplanes announced its collaboration with a Cyprus educational facility towards the creation of a new field of study in aviation management.

The Greek company has also proceeded with a bid to the country’s privatization agency, TAIPED, for the use of portions of property on a 60-hectare stretch along Athens’ southern coast in Faliro and for the management of the Athens Marina at SEF, where it plans to build a metropolitan Attica waterway.

According to Hellenic Seaplanes, which aims to connect the Greek islands with the mainland via waterways, a total of 30 routes are in the process of licensing countrywide, with plans for most of them to be operational by 2015, allowing customers to travel across Greece via hydroplanes, breathing life into remote islands, opening new jobs in the tourism sector and strengthening ties between local communities.
