passengers_ticketThe Greek Civil Aviation Authority reported an increase in passenger arrivals for the first 10 months of 2014 (Jan.-Oct.) with 41.4 million arrivals compared to 35.7 million in the same period in 2013. The upturn, the report confirms, is part due to the extension of the tourist season.

The recently-released figures confirm that 2014 has thus far been the best year for air traffic in the country, with the number of arrivals exceeding the record 41.3 million arrivals in 2007.

Specifically, domestic traffic for the year 2014 reached 10.3 million passengers compared to 8.6 million in 2013, while international traffic amounted to 31.1 million compared to 27.1 million in 2013.

Domestic arrivals increased by 1,1 percent, compared with the same period last year. International arrivals increased by 13,6 percent compared with last year. Both arrivals and departures also display a significant positive change by approximately 16 percent.

Athens International Airport has also shown signs of recovery with some 13 million passengers going through its gates compared to 10.8 million for the same 10-month period in 2013.

According to the report, the number of flights to Greek airports for October 2014 has also risen compared to 2013 with an 8.6 percent increase in domestic flights and a 15.5 percent in international flights. At the same time, domestic arrivals report a 31 percent rise with the number of international arrivals increased by 18 percent.
