The new route will launch in March 2015. In an announcement, the airline said it is committed to link the Greek capital with major cities of Europe. Easyjet currently flies Greek passengers from Athens International Airport to Edinburgh, Rome (Fiumicino), Geneva, Hamburg, London (Gatwick and Manchester), Milan (Malpensa), Paris (Orly) and Berlin (Schönefeld). The new route to Naples, is the airline’s third Italian destination from Athens. According to the announcement, over the past five years the airline has noted a steady increase in Greece, with an average growth of nine percent per year. The total capacity of the company in Greece is expected to exceed two million airline seats in 2015. “From next summer, traveling tourists will benefit from our expanded flight schedule for the peak season, with more of our flights during the months of June to September,” easyJet’s general manager operations, Stefanos Vakirtzis, said. In 2014, easyJet launched 10 new routes in Greece: Athens – Hamburg, Corfu – Naples, Heraklion – Edinburgh, Kalamata – Hamburg, Kos – Glaskovi, Mykonos – Basel, Mykonos – Naples, Rhodes – Rome (Fiumicino), Thessaloniki – Fiumicino (Rome) and Athens – Naples. Statistics of the Greek National Tourism Organization suggest that easyJet’s contribution of the Greek economy for 2014 will surpass one billion euros.
