More specifically, the travel balance in September showed a surplus of 2.101 million euros against 1.870 million euros during the corresponding month of 2013, an increase of 12.3 percent. In September, tourism revenue rose by 10.9 percent (225 million euros) to 2.28 billion euros from 2.06 billion compared to the same month in 2013. The increase in tourism revenue in September was attributable mainly to the increase of arrivals by 23 percent (3.6 million people) as the average cost per trip dropped by 9.6 percent. Arrivals from France and Germany to Greece in September increased by 59.8 percent and 15.3 percent respectively, while arrivals from the United Kingdom increased by 10.7 percent. In regards to countries outside the EU-28, arrivals from Russia to Greece decreased by 17.2 percent and amounted to 236,000 travelers, while arrivals from the US jumped by 50.8 percent and amounted to 101,000 travelers. In January-September 2014, tourism revenue in Greece grew by 11.1 percent compared to the same period of 2013 and amounted to 12.02 million euros. International arrivals to Greece during the first nine months of the year increased by 22.2 percent to 18.9 million visitors against 15.5 million during the corresponding period in 2013.
