Greenspots_logoSustainability and networking are at the heart of the ongoing GreenSpots project, a joint effort by Greek and Bulgarian tourism sector professionals to upgrade the tourism product in their regions.

Seven partners from Rodopi, Xanthi and Evros in Greece, and from Hascovo, Chepelare and Rudozem in Bulgaria signed an agreement under the coordination of the Komotini Municipal Development Agency K. Karatheodori S.A., laying the groundwork for the development of sustainable tourism practices and the implementation of environmentally friendly measures and actions in this direction.

The GreenSpots project has identified the natural and cultural resources (wetlands, beaches, mountains, particular landscapes, archaeological sites, Byzantine and Ottoman monuments, monuments of the modern era, historical sites) in the region that can be utilized for the upgrade of the tourism product on offer.

Evros, City of Alexandroupolis.
Rodopi, Komotini city.
Xanthi, old city.

Proposals include the launch of theme routes and the installation of 12 tourism info points along the Greece-Bulgaria border, six in the Greek border area in the Evros, Rodopi and Xanthi prefectures, and six on the Bulgarian side of the border, in Hascovo, Chepelare and Rudozem. The info kiosks will be equipped with touch screens providing information on the tourism product of the cross border area.
