TV Zvezda is one of the largest Russian TV channels and counts some 17 million viewers. Images of the breathtaking Greek island, known all over the world for its picturesque town, hit Russian TV screens on 30 November. As no cars are allowed on Hydra, the donkeys and mules play an important role in the transportation of residents and tourists. Hydra, which is a short hop from Athens and across the Peloponnesian coast, has been the subject of innumerable paintings as well as a cosmopolitan holiday destination and choice of summer home for writers, artists, and refined jet-setters since the 50s. TV Zvezda collaborated with the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) office in Russia and the Hydra Hotels Association for the production of the island’s TV feature. The association, now headed by hotelier Maria Kladaki, has established fruitful partnerships with tourism stakeholders, the GNTO, the Tourism Ministry and the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels in order to promote the island and highlight its uniqueness: a destination without cars with untouched nature and an fascinating architectural heritage.
