Land Transportation Tourist Coaches Want to Operate Intercity Routes by GTP editing team 23 December 2014 written by GTP editing team 23 December 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 26 The Greek Federation of Tourism Enterprises (GEPOET) has expressed its satisfaction with the Τourism Μinistry’s recent decision to stop an amendment to draft legislation tabled by the Εnvironment Μinistry which would in effect exclude privately-run tourist coaches and buses from the future liberalization of the country’s long distance routes, currently operated by the public intercity transport bus service known as KTEL. GEPOET, representing tourist coaches and buses in Greece, has called on transport minister Michalis Chrysochoidis and deputy minister Michalis Papadopoulos to steer clear of one-sided measures that serve the interests of certain groups. According to the federation, the liberalization procedure of intercity routes requires collaboration between all parties involved and the relevant ministries. There are currently 7,500 tourist coaches and buses in Greece, transporting over 20 million passengers annually.
