Photo © Facebook – ΟΙ ΟΜΟΡΦΙΕΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΑΣ ΜΑΣ Describing the Eastern Aegean island of some 8,420 residents as the “land of legend, longevity and few tourists”, the award-winning travel and adventure magazine included Ikaria among 11 UNESCO-listed spots across the globe that offer stress- and crowd-free holidays, and recommends visiting between June and September. Photo © Maria Theofanopoulou Ikaria was ranked second in Wanderlust’s list, which also includes such exotic destinations as Dahlak Archipelago, Eritrea, Raja Ampat, Indonesia, Australia’s Christmas Island, Snow Hill Island, Antarctica, Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha, Russia’s Wrangel Island, Masirah in Oman, Åland Islands, Sweden/Finland, Cape Verde, Buccaneer Archipelago, Australia and the Channel Islands in the US. Wanderlust mentions among others, the history (and mythology) of the island, the beautiful landscape, the isolation, which has saved it from poor interventions, and finally the food and its people, who are among the world’s longest living thanks to the Mediterranean diet and the stress-free lifestyle.
