Surveys, Trends & Stats Greece Most Popular Destination for British Solo Travellers by GTP editing team 9 January 2015 written by GTP editing team 9 January 2015 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 Greece is the most popular destination for Britons holidaying alone, according to the analysis of 100,000 holiday bookings carried out by UK travel inspiration website 101 Holidays. According to the research, singles holidays are on the rise, with the biggest surge in demand from the over 50s traveller. “Holiday companies that run group tours in the UK and overseas are reporting that 35 percent of their clients now travel alone and they expect this figure to rise to 38 percent in 2015, based on advance bookings.” The research of 101 Holidays showed that 58.3 percent of single holidaymakers are female. But that figure rises for more active and exotic trips such as walking holidays (64 percent) and African safaris (60 percent). Men are more likely to take cycling and sailing trips. The data of 101 Holidays is supported by the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), as its 2014 Consumer Holiday Trends Report found that 13 percent of UK holidaymakers now travel alone. But, it said, “for people aged over 65 the figure rises to 21 per cent, suggesting older age groups are among the most independent when it comes to taking holidays”.
