Air Travel Greek Airports Among Europe’s Top Performers in November by GTP editing team 12 January 2015 written by GTP editing team 12 January 2015 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 5 Santorini (Thira) National Airport Greece’s airports were among Europe’s best performers in November 2014, according to a traffic report released last week by European airport trade body, ACI Europe. The ACI Europe Airport Traffic report, which includes network, low cost and charter flights, found that in November, Greek airports reported increases in passenger traffic in three of the four European airport groups based on passenger traffic. The November data included 207 airports representing more than 88% of European air passenger traffic. Athens International Airport In Group 2 with total annual traffic between 10 and 25 million passengers, Athens airport reported a 27.5 percent rise. In Group 3 with annual traffic at 5-10 million, Iraklion airport on Crete posted an increase of 14.4 percent. In Group 4, with annual traffic less than 5 million yearly, Santorini airport recorded a 69 percent rise, Crete’s Hania airport a 67.0 percent rise and Kefallonia airport a 58.5 percent increase. According to the findings, traffic at EU airports is outperforming economic growth with Greece, Luxembourg, Belgium, Ireland, Romania, Portugal and Croatia all posting double digit passenger growth figures, primarily driven by low cost airline traffic. ACI Europe is the European region of Airports Council International (ACI), the only worldwide professional association of airport operators, representing over 450 airports in 45 European countries. Member airports handle 90 percent of commercial air traffic in Europe, welcoming over 1.7 billion passengers each year.
