The need to upgrade urban environments and face the challenges of the ever-changing urban scene with careful planning and practical solutions thus paving the way for investment and tourism was at the center of Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis’ address during this year’s European Urban Regeneration Council, which took place in Paris on Tuesday.

Kaminis, who spoke about the urban regeneration of Athens at the event organized by the Urban Lab Institute (ULI), discussed projects underway in the Greek capital and invited participants to share their insight stressing the importance of sustainability.

ULI_EuropeOther key speakers included David Twohig, who addressed urban development and the defining process of a neighborhood or city and Thomas Sevcik, who spoke about the rise of the social media and how this redefines the city perspective.

Founded in 1936, ULI is a non-profit research and educational organization with over 33,000 members in 95 countries worldwide, representing land use and real estate development disciplines.
