greeceGreece is ranked ninth among 24 countries offering the cheapest accommodation and Athens 10th among 50 city destinations according to a trivago.com best value report, making the country an attractive choice for tourists planning their summer holidays.

According to trivago.com, an overnight stay in a standard double room in Greece costs about 79 euros, 90 euros in Spain and Turkey, in Poland at a cheaper 54 euros and on the high end, in Switzerland at 216 euros per night.

International tour operators are optimistic that Greece will again top their destinations lists, media reports reveal. Thomas Cook, serving the British market, said the number of UK tourists booking holidays to Greece has increased, in part due to competitive package deals as well as to the favorable exchange rate of the euro against the British pound.

German agencies are also expressing confidence with the number of German holidaymakers eyeing Greece for their summer vacation on the rise.

Europe-oriented travel group Τui also expects 2015 to be a good year for Greece, boosting by 10 percent the availability of seats it offers on flights to Athens.

At the same time, however, Greece is trying to attract Russian tourists, with hoteliers offering discounts of up to 40 percent on their package deals through early booking.
