The Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos airport, receiving among the highest number of charter flights last year, has introduced Tel Aviv, Bratislava, Katowice, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Bergamo, Prague, London, Vienna, Hamburg, Wroclaw, Warsaw, Paris, Oslo, Vienna, Manchester, Birmingham, to its new flight timetable. Flight schedules to Russia and Ukraine are pending. The Municipality of Kalamata also said that schedules for Aegean Airlines and Astra Airlines have not been finalized yet, but that Aegean is expected to be handling most of the flights to major Europe destinations including Paris, Munich, Stockholm and Dusseldorf. Aegean Airlines has also planned six return flights between Kalamata and London’s Gatwick airport in October for the annual ABTA Travel Convention to be held in nearby Messinia, at the Costa Navarino luxury coastal resort on 12-14 October. Kalamata, in southern Greece, is also once again connected with the northern port city of Thessaloniki, with five weekly flights operated by Astra Airlines. In the meantime, the municipality has introduced its Office of Tourism Support on the airport grounds offering travellers information on the tourism offerings of the region.
