Athens_International_AirportPassenger traffic at Athens International Airport recorded a 24.6 percent rise for February, compared to the same month last year, according to figures released by the airport authority this week.

International arrivals posted a 19 percent rise with approximately half a million (548,925) travellers passing through Athens airport gates in February, while domestic traffic rose by 34.3 percent with a total of 355,713 passengers for the month of February compared to the same period last year.

The report also found that the number of foreign travellers visiting Athens grew by 24 percent compared to the same month last year, which it attributed to the success of promotional efforts that have made the Greek capital an attractive city break destination during the winter months.

In total, traffic at Athens International Airport for the January-February period exceeded 1.8 million passengers, recording a 26.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year, with domestic traffic posting a 39.1 percent rise.
