Heraklion Port Authority LogoPlanning ahead for the forthcoming summer season and preparing for the influx of cruise ships and passengers topped the agenda of the Heraklion Port Authority’s (HPA) meeting on Wednesday.

The majority of the Cretan port city’s tourism sector bodies and professionals were present in efforts to find a common ground of cooperation in order to best promote the island’s tourist product, attract more visitors and ensure the highest quality of services offered.

During the meeting, HPA chairman Ioannis Bras informed the participants of the port authority’s actions for the 2015-2016 period, particularly with regard to the promotion of Heraklion as a prime cruise destination. In this direction, the HPA will be attending one of the industry’s largest industry shows, the week long Cruise Shipping Miami conference, which kicks off on March 16.

Participants agreed that it is vital the municipality, the port authority, tourist operators and local businesses work hand in hand to ensure the “smooth-running” tourist experience — a result of effectiveness, efficiency and modernization. This, they said, can only be achieved though daily problem-solving on a collaborative level.
