Foodies Prepare for French Feast at the Athens Sofitel for ‘Goût de France’

Some 1,000 chefs in five continents will cook up 1,000 menus to celebrate the “Goût de France / Good France” on March 19, with Athens joining the gastronomic fun at its Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel.

Aiming to promote France through the international visibility of the event, the Goût de France / Good France initiative celebrates French cuisine on the eve of spring in various locations across the globe with inventive dinners served simultaneously in participating restaurants.

Greek chef Theofanis Stathis of the “Karavi” restaurant will prepare a six-course dinner for the Sofitel event.

“The Goût de France / Good France initiative honors French cuisine, innovation and the values of sharing, enjoyment and respect to high-quality and environmentally responsible cuisine,” says Cyril Manguso, GM Sofitel Athens Airport.

“The international influence of French cuisine is significant, demonstrated by UNESCO’s decision to classify it as ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’. We are delighted to be participating in a historic event as the Goût de France / Good France initiative marks the first official international presentation of French cuisine after its classification,” Manguso added.

Inspiration for the project came from legendary French chef Auguste Escoffier, who first launched the “Les Dîners d’Épicure” in 1912, with one menu served on the same day in cities across the globe to as many guests as possible.

The Sofitel Athens is part of the Sofitel Luxury Hotels group, a French hotel chain under Accor, with over 120 hotels in 40 countries serving clients under the slogan “Life is magnifique”.
