Photo credit: Babis Giritziotis The “Navarino Challenge” marathon had a triple win last week at the Tourism Awards that took place at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall in Athens. In its second year, the Tourism Awards promote excellence and innovation in the fields of travel, hospitality and leisure in Greece. Following the gold award won at the first Tourism Awards ceremony for “Best Sports Tourism Event in 2013”, the Navarino Challenge once again was recognized for its elements of innovation, its importance to the tourism sector and the national economy, its synergies and collaborations and the sustainability principles it demonstrated in 2014. This year Navarino Challenge scooped up two gold awards and one silver: Gold Tourism Award for “Strategic Partnership” (Category: Strategy & Innovation); Gold Tourism Award for “Environment Health & Wellness Tourism” (Category: Specialty Offering); Silver Tourism Award for “Public Relations – Media Coverage” (Category: Branding, Public Relations & People Strategy). Photo credit: Babis Giritziotis The Navarino Challenge is the first marathon race that aims to raise awareness regarding childhood obesity and the benefits of the Mediterranean diet. The third edition of the event will take place on September 11-13 and will be supported once again by The Westin Resort Costa Navarino putting into practice the philosophy of “well being”.. According to the organizers, this year’s event will be even more exciting and challenging and those attending should expect many surprises. The third Navarino Challenge, besides the half-marathon (21.1km), the 5km route for running and dynamic walking), the 1km route for children, open sea swimming, Tae Kwo Do and Pilates, new activities such as climbing will be added.
