From April 1, Athens will be the 18th destination in the airline’s route network in Greece. “Greece has become the strongest growth market for NIKI over the past few years,” NIKI’s General Manager Christian Lesjak said today in a press conference in the Greek capital. The new Vienna-Athens route will operate daily (except on Saturday) with an Airbus A320 and provide flexibility and connecting flights for holiday and business travellers to Greece. In addition, passengers from Greece will have access to NIKI connections between Vienna and the global airberlin network. “The recently decided-upon fleet conversion and our position as market leader will enable us to offer more flights from Vienna to Greece in the future”, he said. NIKI will take off from Vienna at 11:30 and land in the Greek capital at 14:35. The return flight will leave Athens at 15:25 and land in Vienna at 16:45. With 90 flights and some 16,000 seats every week, NIKI already serves 17 destinations in Greece including popular holiday islands, such as Santorini (six flights a week), Mykonos and Samos (three weekly flights). According to the director of communications and marketing of Athens International Airport (AIA), Ioanna Papadopoulou, the Austrian market is very fast growing. Last year, the increase of Austrian visitors to Athens stood at 54 percent. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
