Volotea Launches First of Five New Routes in Athens, Greece

Volotea started today its operations from Athens with the traditional water arch which welcomed its first airplane to Athens International Airport.

Volotea, a Spanish short and medium haul airline linking small and medium sized cities, on Friday launched its Athens-Venice flight from Athens International Airport (AIA), the first of five new routes from the Greek capital to five destinations.

The new flight will link the Greek capital to Venice three times a week until October 30.

Volotea will also launch four weekly flights from Athens to the Greek island of Santorini from May 29 until October 2 and link the Greek capital to the Italian destinations of Bari (two weekly flights weekly from May 29  to October 1), Palermo (two flights weekly from June 26 to September 4), and Pisa/Tuscany (two weekly flights from May 29 to October 2).

This is the first year of operations of Volotea in Athens and the fourth in Greece. The company has carried some 200,000 passengers to and from the country via 27 Greek routes since its launch in April 2012.

In total, Volotea will fly to 12 Greek destinations this year and operate 27 Greek routes.

This year, the Spanish airline will offer more than 480 flights from Athens with the Athens-Venice route having the highest number of flights. The company will offer more than 60.000 seats on the routes departing from Athens.

Currently, Volotea operates 153 routes on 65 regional capitals and medium European cities, of 8 countries (France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Czech Republic, Croatia and Israel).

Since its creation, Volotea has transported more than 4 million passengers in Europe and expects to reach 6 million this year.
