Due to the increase, SETE said that the target of welcoming 25 million international arrivals this year is achievable. According to figures released by the confederation, the country’s main airports recorded more than 810,000 international arrivals by the end of March, an increase higher by 180,000 or some 29 percent compared to the same quarter of 2014. SETE said that both Athens and Thessaloniki made an impressive start this year. “The 29.5 percent increase in Athens during the first quarter, sets the stage for a record year for the destination. The Thessaloniki Airport gives a similar picture, where an increase of 22.3 percent was recorded for the first quarter, compared to the same period in 2014.” The confederation noted that it is still too soon to draw firm conclusions based on arrival numbers in the rest of the country. “It is, however, very positive that many airports are following the trend of extending the season”, SETE added.
