Alternate Minister Elena Kountoura and the president of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) Yiorgos Patoulis last week explored the role of the country’s local authorities in regards to health tourism. In recent years, local authorities are making efforts to develop health tourism through Greece’s thermal springs.

The meeting was also attended by the vice president of the Hellenic Association of Municipalities with Thermal Springs, Giannis Karagiannis.

During the meeting, all sides agreed to work together in the three sectors of Health Tourism – Medical Tourism, Preventive Health Tourism and Wellness Tourism.

They also sought ways for municipalities to improve their tourism offering through investments.

In addition, it was agreed for the Greek National Tourism Organization to have a more active role in promoting Greece’s health tourism potential to markets abroad, so the country could become a global destination for Health Tourism.
