A team of 10 leading tour operators and journalists from Oman recently experienced Athens first-hand and got to know the destination’s history, sights and comparative advantages. Photo source: AKTINA During the five-day familiarization trip (fam trip), which was arranged by Aktina Travel Services, the team embarked on a walking tour in the historic city center, visited the Greek capital’s top attractions, took part in hotel inspections and attended tasting events. The tour operators and journalists also explored the contemporary side of the Greek capital through visits to major shopping centers, amusement parks and nightclubs. The guests from the Middle East also enjoyed a popular attraction for tourists visiting Athens: a one-day cruise calling at the islands of the Argosaronic Gulf, which are in very close distance to the city. During the fam trip, Aktina also held an event and — together with representatives of the Athens Development & Destination Management Agency and the Arab-Hellenic Chamber — informed guests about the hosting services of Athens, the city’s conference tourism facilities and on initiatives planned to attract more visitors from the Middle East to Greece. The fam trip was part of a series of activities and initiatives of Aktina aimed to promote Athens and Greece to the emerging and dynamic tourism market of the Middle East. Last December, Aktina was among the gold sponsors of a fam trip held for tour operators and journalists from Kuwait and Bahrain. A member of the Arab-Hellenic Chamber, Aktina has traditional ties with tour operators of the wider Middle East and is the exclusive representative in Greece of Gulf Air, the principal flag carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
