During May 1-3, Santorini Island will welcome the Santorini Experience, an ultimate sports event with breathtaking views, challenging routes and a rewarding experience!

On Saturday, May 2, the experience for participants will kick off with a 1.5 mile (2.4 km) swimming route starting from the volcano’s harbor. A specially-shaped finish arch at the pier of Fira’s old port will indicate the swim finish.

The Santorini Experience route can surely be considered one-of-a-kind as runners will come across the panoramic views of the island’s famous volcano, the caldera and colors of volcanic stone.

Santorini Experience runners should be aware that their endurance and strengths will be challenged as the elevation changes on all routes and also includes stairs, gravel, stone paths and a small asphalt track that will need special attention when descending.

None of the races have time limits or age categories.

Organized by the Municipality of Thira and the Santorini Municipal Sports, Culture and Environmental Organization in collaboration with Active Media Group and with the technical support of Xterra Greece, the Santorini Experience comes to highlight the importance of exercise while tapping into the ever-growing potential of sports tourism.

A part of the proceeds from the Santorini Experience will go towards the construction of an athletics track at the island’s stadium.

Registration can be made online or at Alafouzos Sport store in Fira. The deadline for registration is Thursday, April 30.

Organizers inform that Blue Star Ferries is offering participants a 30% discount on ferry tickets (passenger and vehicle). Necessary preconditions include paid participation for the event and bookings through The Travel Company Experts (phone: +30 215 5608282, ext. 313).

Sponsors of the event include the Santorini Hotels Association, Reef and The North Face. GTP is a Strategic Communication Partner of the Santorini Experience event.
