UK journalists, reporters and tour operators had the chance to learn more about the historic “Aristotle Trail” last month, during a presentation at London’s Hellenic Hall of the Aristotle Mountain Experience in the northern Greece region of Halkidiki. Dozens of media representatives and travel agents attended the event, which featured among others the cultural and natural offerings of the region, protected under the Natura 2000 EU directive. The so-called Aristotle Walk is 32km trail leading to the town of Stagira, where Greek philosopher Aristotle was born in 384BC. Besides its natural beauty, the trek also offers a glimpse of monuments including the ancient agora, Byzantine remnants and more. One of the UK’s largest travel agencies specializing in walking tours, the Ramblers, has even included the Aristotle trek in its recommendations for this year. In the meantime, in Greece, five UK media representatives visited the region for three days earlier this month (right photo), where they ventured the Aristotle Trail, visited Stagira, experienced local honey production and mussel collecting and did some food tasting for fun. The Hellenic Hall event, jointly organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and the Mount Athos Area Organization, came to a gastronomic close with traditional food and wine from the region as well as a cooking class by members of the Varvara Women’s Agrotourism Coop.
