Organised by the Porto Carras Grand Resort in cooperation with XTERRA Greece, the two-day sports event includes a half-marathon (21km), 5km and 10km road races, 1,000m, 2,500m and 5,000m swimming races as well as kiddies road and swimming events. Anyone over 18 can register either online at www.xterragreece.com or www.portocarrasmarathon.com and the entry fee includes a medal, a commemorative T-shirt, access to feeding/aid stations, a bathing cap (for competing swimmers) and electronic timing. The children’s events are free of charge. “This great sport event is evidence that the private sector can contribute to the promotion of sports tourism in Greece. Porto Carras aims yet again to honor the values of fair play, sports spirit and volunteerism, especially among young people,” said Valentina Pentorets, Porto Carras sales manager and coordinator of the event. “The ‘Sun & Sea’ model is not sufficient on its own to complete the Halkidiki tourist product, which is why we support the Porto Carras Grand Resort initiative, as it is the ideal location for such events that aim to promote sports tourism in Northern Greece,” Halkidiki Tourism Organization General Manager George Broutzas added. The world’s premier off-road multisport event, XTERRA is one part triathlon, one part mountain bike race and one part “survival of the fittest”. The company also organizes several standalone events in stunning locations across Greece, including trail runs, mountain bike events and open water swim challenges. Porto Carras recently received a distinction in sports tourism at the 2015 Tourism Awards. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
