Capsis Hotel and the Thessaloniki and Veria municipal tourism departments supported the initiative, which included tours to hotels and accommodation units in the region, visits to picturesque villages and trips to major sites of cultural, natural and religious interest. Apart from Halkidiki, the participants also had the chance to visit the northern port city of Thessaloniki and Veria, where they were taken to the Archaeological Museum of Vergina. In its ongoing efforts to tap into the needs and developing trends of the international tourism market, the HTO is working to establish the region as a leading destination that combines pristine beaches, fine food, traditional villages, cultural and religious tourism options and warm hospitality. In the meantime, two Brighton University professors have included the Halkidiki fam trips as case studies in their research, which the HTO believes will add to the region’s popularity.
