Conde Nast Traveller: Greece Among Top Destinations for British Travellers

naxos-greeceGreece is featured in the top 10 of the visited destinations of British travellers, according to the customary reader survey of Conde Nast Traveller (CNT), the premier travel and lifestyle magazine. The reader survey takes place every three years.

According to the 2014 survey, Greece comes in sixth place on the top 10 list of the visited destinations after England, France, Italy, the United States and Spain (mainland). Germany comes in seventh on the list followed by Scotland, Dubai and countries of the Middle East (UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel).

Greece was also included among the top 5 destinations of the “wish list” of British travellers after Italy, France, the US and England. The list reveals the destinations travellers would like to visit in the next two years.

As seen in the survey, with Greece on both the “most visited” and “wish” lists, the country is recognized as one of the most popular tourism destinations among British travellers, as it has a plethora of boutique luxury properties, original experiences and is offered for all popular types of holidays.

According to CNT’s representative office in Greece, Opus DK, Thessaloniki will be featured as a city break destination in the June issue of Conde Nast Traveller, while a special section on Greece will be available in the July issue with a number of destinations presented from the famous to lesser known. The August issue will feature Greek destinations as part of summer getaways. In addition, the magazine is already planning next year’s editorial coverage for Greece.

Conde Nast Traveller is considered an influencer of holiday trends, inspirational for choosing a holiday and is the most trusted travel title.

CNT survey shows “Travel Resurgence”

Conde-Nast-Reader-Survey-coverFollowing the conservative travel habits of the CNT readers during the past few years, the results of the new survey showed that there has been a “Travel Resurgence”. On average, Condé Nast Traveller readers travel 12 times a year for a holiday, short break or weekend getaway (taking 5 UK trips and 7 trips abroad). This means that the CNT readers they took three more trips abroad than in 2012.

The trend of the “Travel Resurgence” was seen also in the holiday spending of readers. Among key findings of the survey was that the average spend on a main holiday was up 20 percent at £4,150 per person per year and the total annual spend on holidays, short breaks and weekend was up 32 percent at £9,774 per person.

The most popular type of holidays taken by CNT readers in the last 12 months include city breaks (80 percent – an increase of 18 percent from 2012), sporting holidays (42 percent) and cruise trips (16 percent – an increase of 32 percent from 2012).

The survey also revealed that 58 percent of CNT readers are luxury indulgence seekers, 51 percent are authentic experience travellers, 48 percent are culture seekers, 40 percent are good weather seekers and 33 percent are modern explorers.

Also, while on holiday, indulgence or authentic experience seekers stayed in luxury/boutique hotels (92 percent), international hotel chains (63 percent), resort and conference hotels (31 percent) and villas (26 percent).
