Aristotelis

The ancient civilization of Central Macedonia will be featured on Italian television as part of the Halkidiki Tourism Organization’s (HTO) ongoing promotional efforts marking the Year of Aristotle 2016 — 2,400 years since his birth.

The HTO welcomed three Italian journalists to the region last month who are filming a documentary to be completed in December for Italian public broadcaster RAI.

Titled “Money & Art”, the documentary series will focus on Alexander the Great and the ancient currencies of Pella and Amphipolis. The official presentation of the documentary will take place in Thessaloniki. The Italian reporters interviewed the director of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Maria Tsantsanoglou, about the Costakis Collection which is currently touring in Italy, and also expressed interest in the Iolas Collection. Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris was also interviewed.

Also in May, the organization welcomed two Italian archaeologists — Andreas Steiner and Carlo Casi — to the region for a feature they are preparing for Archeo magazine dedicated to Ancient Olynthus and to Macedonia-born philosopher Aristotle. The two archaeologists met with the director of the Pella Museum, archaeologist Elisabeth Tsigarida, who is responsible for the excavations at Olynthus.

The HTO is working towards finding ways to promote the region through filming and features in international media.
