Greece appears to be one of the top destinations to visit this year for families from the United Kingdom, as bookings to the country continue to rise, research by one of the UK’s leading online travel agencies, Holiday Hypermarket, has shown. According to the data, bookings to Greece have increased a huge 71.7 percent since 2013, showing that more and more UK holidaymakers are choosing Greece for their summer holiday. “Despite the economic unrest in Greece, the islands are still extremely popular with UK holidaymakers, especially with families”, Holiday Hypermarket representative, Ian Crawford, said on the upturn in visitor numbers, remarking on the large number of repeat visits. Year on year bookings to Zakynthos (Zante) have increased by 39 percent, while bookings to Lesvos have risen 42.9 percent since 2013. While Zakynthos and Rhodes are still the top Greek destinations for families, the destinations of Kos, up 15 percent from 2014, and Corfu, also up by 6 percent, are starting to attract more families. Santorini Island. “We can see that Greece generates a high number of repeat bookings, suggesting that it ticks a lot of boxes as far as families are concerned. There is a lot on offer to suit all ages which is a big factor in deciding on where to go on holiday”, Mr. Crawford added. As mentioned in an announcement by Holiday Hypermarket, Greece’s family friendly attractions, including water parks, fabulous beaches and fascinating history, are all factors which indicate as to why families in particular are enjoying a Greek holiday. “This is encouraging news for Greece ahead of the busy summer months and is testament to the friendliness of the nation and all that it offers”, the announcement read. ABTA’s Travel Trends Report recently revealed Greece’s Peloponnese as one of their 12 “Destinations to Watch” in 2015. The list contains destinations that are predicted to most capture the public’s imagination this year. Holiday Hypermarket’s research seems to back this up as a growing amount flock to see what Greece has to offer.
