The Region of the South Aegean recently discussed embarking on a partnership with globally popular television news channel CNN to raise its tourism profile. South Aegean Prefect George Hadjimarkos on Tuesday met with CNN International Vice President Antonio Canto in London and discussed the promotion of the South Aegean island’s through the network. The region consists of the Cyclades and Dodecanese island groups in the central and southeastern Aegean Sea. According to an announcement, CNN approached the Region of the South Aegean and suggested a cooperation, recognizing that the region boasts some of the biggest and most popular travel destinations in Europe. The South Aegean Region is the first Greek region to discuss a partnership with CNN, which counts some 291 million subscribers across the globe and is known for launching targeted promotional campaigns. The meeting was also attended by the region’s vice governor of Tourism, Marieta Papavasileiou-Vakiani and CNN executives that deal specifically with tourism issues. A second meeting between Mr. Hadjimarkos and CNN executives is scheduled for the end of June on Rhodes to finalize the partnership and discuss details for the promotion of the Greek islands. Members of the CNN Tourism, Advertising Solutions, and Knowledge (TASK) Group will attend the meeting. The CNN TASK Group was launched in 2007 to boost tourism and help various countries identify their globally not-so-popular destinations to attract tourists. The TASK Group is comprised of a team that focuses on building partnerships with tourism sector professionals to create remarkable solutions for their tourism strategies.
