hackathon_transport_1The design and implementation of open data applications will be the focus of the two-day Hackathon Festival to be held on July 4-5 at the Athens Technopolis in Gazi.

Target audience

hackathon_transport_open-dataPart of the longterm Crowdhackathon – Innovating with Open Data initiative, the two-day event, invites entrepreneurs, developers, analysts, designers, transportation specialists, architects, communication & customer service executives, business consultants, professionals and students to actively contribute to the development of applications that promote entrepreneurship and improve the quality of life in the city by applying for the Hackathon#transport competition. Data sets and technical specifications as well as prizes will be announced on June 25.

Organizers are also calling on the public or the private sectors to actively participate through “opening” their data on culture, tourism, environment and public administration.

The event is organized by the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA), Crowdpolicy Innovative Company and InnovAthens and the Athens’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub.

Goals@Hackathon

The festival aims to promote the culture of open data as well as opportunities for the Greek economy and job market, offer incentives and inspiration for the development of products or services, mobilize relevant ministries and other public institutions to make their “open data” available for use and innovation, following the example of OASA.

transport_hackathonHow Can I Participate?

By developing applications that will leverage data provided by ministries, public and private institutions, including OASA, combining provided data with other data and references in the fields of economy or public administration and aiming to strengthen digital economy and entrepreneurship. These include presentation and combination of data related to public transportation routes or for citizens’ direct information, smart applications for tourism or retailing, smart tools for small- and medium-sized enterprises, smart services for digital payments, customer information and promotion of services. Applications focusing on entrepreneurial adaptation will be strongly encouraged.

By providing useful tools and practice ideas aiming to improve OASA’s services, such as tools that will collect and/or combine data as a means to effectively monitor Athens’ transportation system, to improve decision-making, decision and incident management, and finally, the cooperation between transportation and public bodies.

By creatively working together on open data in order to strengthen information mechanisms for citizens and public transportation users through visualizations, infographics and geographical depictions of the data provided during the Hackathon#transport.
