Trade Associations - Gov Berlin-based Travel Board Says German Tourists Safe in Greece by GTP editing team 23 June 2015 written by GTP editing team 23 June 2015 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 With negotiations between Greece and its creditors culminating during the peak of the summer season, German tourists are wondering if it’s safe to visit. In response, the German Travel Association (DRV) issued a statement last week, presented in the Guardian, saying that the debt crisis may have created tension but Greece is more than open to receiving German vacationers and that a potential “Grexit” will have a “limited impact on holidaymakers, particularly those on package tours.” “Are Germans welcome guests in Greece? Definitely! German holidaymakers are always welcome and their Greek hosts are grateful for any support,” the statement continued. “Despite isolated political campaigns against Germany in the past, German tourists do not need to fear hostility or hatred in Greece.” The DRV did warn however that “demonstrations should generally be avoided, like in any country”, adding that overall holiday destinations remain unaffected. The association even urged Germans to holiday in Greece, adding that they would be “supporting the local economy and helping to stabilise the situation”. According to the DRV, Greece was a top choice for some 2.5 million German tourists last year, up by 17 percent compared to the previous year.
