UK, US Travelers Boost Q1 Travel Revenues in Greece

MYKONOS_01_ChoraHolidaymakers from the US and the UK boosted revenues in Greece by 14.4 percent in the first quarter of the year, according to data released on Tuesday by the Bank of Greece.

Revenue from UK travelers came to 102 million euros, up by 46.5 percent, and from US visitors to 94 million euros, a 67.2 percent rise. Receipts from German and French travelers remained the same, but dropped by 12.5 percent from Russian travelers.

Greece’s travel surplus expanded further in April 2015. The travel services balance achieved a surplus of 312 million euros compared to 222 million euros in the same month of 2014, according to central bank figures.

wallet_eurosTravel receipts for April increased by 67 million euros up by 16.3 percent amounting to 477 million euros against 410 million euros in the same month of 2014. Travel receipts rose due to the higher number of arrivals, up by 28.3 percent.

Average spending per trip dropped by 8.4 percent.

Arrivals in April increased by 28.3 percent and travel receipts by 16.3 percent.

For the January-April 2015 period, travel receipts rose by 14.4 percent against the same period in 2014, with total arrivals of non-residents up by 39.1 percent compared to the same period last year.

Incoming traffic in April came to 934,000 travelers, a 28.3 percent rise compared to the same month of 2014, boosted by a 39.3 percent increase in the number of arrivals from EU countries and a 13.1 percent rise in the number of arrivals from countries outside the EU.
