In an announcement on Saturday, following the crucial national and political developments in Greece*, SETE said that the main aim is to maintain the calmness and sense of security of the hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors that are currently on holiday in the country. “Tourists that are currently holidaying and enjoying the Greek tourism experience have not been affected so far… We must aim to stay focused on the needs of the tourism season”, the association said. SETE stressed that the top priority is to protect the country’s image, to properly inform foreign visitors, to work hard in order to avoid cancellations and to ensure the smooth operation of tourism enterprises and their offered services. “During the critical days that lie ahead for our country, we are all obliged — the State and the private sector — to show composure, sobriety and strong reflexes”, SETE underlined. *SETE’s announcement came after Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras called for a referendum on July 5 on whether Greece should accept or reject the demands of the country’s creditors. After the PM’s call for a popular vote, the eurozone countries rejected a month-long extension to the country’s bailout program.
