germany_moneyGerman tourists are still opting for Greece, the German Travel Association (Deutscher Reise-Verband – DRV) said in an announcement on Monday.

According to the DRV, the Germans are not cancelling their reservations to Greece despite closed banks and the overwhelmingly ‘no’ vote in the Greek referendum on Sunday.

“Even after the referendum of July 5th, package tourists are not changing with their travel plans”, the DRV highlighted.

The association said that Greece, its beaches and the sun continue to be “one of the most popular tourist destinations for Germans this summer”.

Some 200,000 and 250,000 Germans are currently in Greece for holidays. The DRV said the number is expected to increase in the coming days and weeks in view of the summer school holidays in several of Germany’s states.

Last year, some 2.5 million Germans visited Greece, up by 8.5 percent compared to 2013. The DRV said that forecasts made for this year expect a further rise.
