Photo © Maria Theofanopoulou Athens International Airport (AIA) on Thursday, July 9, announced an initiative to assist Greeks wanting to travel in their country this month. Due to the country’s difficult economic situation, AIA has called on to a number of airlines to participate in an initiative and offer a total of 15,000 one-way, low cost tickets (priced 0-10 euros) to Greek passengers for travel to destinations in Greece from July 13 to July 26. Aegean Airlines [Update] AEGEAN announced on Monday, July 13, that it is offering 10,000 seats at the price of 9 euros, for one way flights originating from Athens. Furthermore, in order to facilitate all passengers to book a return trip at a very affordable price, AEGEAN is offering an additional 10,000 seats to Athens at the price of 19 euros for one way flights. The booking of 20.000 seats can take place from 13/07 until 26/07 while the travel period is also set for the same period. Ryanair [Update] Ryanair, on Friday, July 10, launched a campaign to “Keep Greece Flying”, by dropping prices on its Athens routes to/from Chania, Rhodes and Thessaloniki to just 4.99 euros. The offer is for travel during July 13-26. The Irish low cost carrier had announced on Thursday, July 9, that it would offer free seats (0 euros) from Athens to Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Chania for travel during July 13-26 only if the Civil Aviation Authority and Athens Airport respectively dropped the airport fee and airport tax to 0 euros for as long as the specific domestic flights operate (two weeks). However, the Greek Government declined this offer. Ellinair Greek carrier Ellinair on Thursday, July 9, announced that it will offer 1,000 airline tickets at the special price of 9 euros for Greek travellers. The special price is valid for a one-way ticket from Athens to the Greek destinations of Heraklion, Mykonos and Santorini, booked during July 13-26. The ticket is valid for travel during the same period. The list of airlines participating in AIA’s initiative will be updated regularly.
