School children on the Cycladic isle of Syros are stepping in as tour guides, welcoming visitors to their island and showing off its major attractions as part of an innovative municipal learning program.

The tour guide project, to run through to August, involves pupils who have volunteered to introduce travelers to Syros’ town hall, the Apollo Theater, the Copies of Cycladic Art Museum and the traditional settlement of Ano Syros.

The program runs from Monday to Friday between 11am and 1.30pm and at 7pm-9pm on Tuesday evenings.

In the meantime, the young tour guides also welcome visiting children to the museum, where they put on puppet shows and participate in arts and crafts while learning about some of Greece’s best known artists.

Other events include the weekly screening of a documentary on Cycladic culture.
